2007 Mentoring Graduation  Ceremony

The Greater Philadelphia WICT Mentoring Program is a huge success.  The 2006 program had seventy participants.  The program ran from May through January.

The program opened up on board the Moshulu.  The mentor and mentee pairs sat together and build the foundation for their new partnership.  We discussed the structure of the program and ways to maximize the value of their new partners.

“For me the program was a blessing as I had always wanted to have someone to go to and discuss my frustrations, my desires and my fears as they pertained to my work.  I had always wanted someone who had a vested interest in me and to the company I am committed to being apart of.  This program would provide me an opportunity I would not take it lightly.  I would like to share with you a reflection of that process.”

The common goal for most participants is to improve themselves and gain guidance from another person who has been successful.  That goal was met by each of the participants who provided feedback.  Participants reported: getting promoted; changing companies; improving self assurance and creating stronger relationships and networks.

The highlight of the midpoint event was the guest speaker, Alba Martinez.  She is the President and CEO of the United Way of Eastern Pennsylvania.  Her message was poignant and meaningful.  She reminded us all about the joy of giving and helping others.

February 1, 2007 was graduation; a night filled with a combination of feelings including excitement, gratitude, anticipation and accomplishment.  The 2006 Mentoring Program had concluded with a night of speeches, photographs and some tears….but these relationships live on.
