On November 10, 2016, WICT Philadelphia held its annual fundraising event WICT Philly Gives Back (WPGB) to raise funds for the WICT scholarship and honor outstanding women in the telecommunications industry. The event also recognizes a Girls, Inc., a non-profit youth organization dedicated to inspiring young girls to be strong, smart and bold. This year’s event was held at the Crystal Tea Ballroom.

The following women were recognized for their outstanding contributions to our industry:

• The Catalyst Award – Sharon Desmond, Comcast, SVP Finance Ops Tech & Engineering, Financial Operations
• The Educator Award – Peggy Gionta, Partner’s Consulting, Inc., President and Founder
• The Inspire Award – Marge Jackson, Comcast, Vice President, Call Center Sales, Customer Service, Customer Experience
• The Communicator Award – Yvette Thornton, Comcast, Senior Manager IP, Cable, Intellectual Property
• Board Appreciation – Greg Hickman, WICT Vice President, Member & Chapter Development

We heard from each one of these inspiring women but we were also lucky to hear from some of the young Ambassadors of Girls Inc. These incredible young women shared their stories and experiences, highlighting the impact Girls Inc. had on their development. Girls Inc. provides these young women with mentorship, leadership development, support and encouragement to pursue STEM careers.

This annual event was a great way to showcase the impact WICT has on our industry and the young leaders of tomorrow and most importantly, a great way to raise funds for organizations like Girls Inc.
