… one of the most popular careers for STEM grads is sales?

By now we’ve all heard how important science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education is for the jobs of the future. But there are certain jobs that are more people than technology focused, right? Well, maybe not.

While traditional selling tactics relied heavily on personal relationships, sales people are now interacting with buyers who have more information at their disposal than ever before. As a result, today’s deals are more often closed over spreadsheets and analytical forecasts than longstanding relationships and rounds of golf.

Meet Meghan! Business Development Executive with Grant Thornton
What do you do for work and what do you love about it and what is most challenging?

Business Development Executive with Grant Thornton. I love that my job is to meet new people everyday and to continue building strong relationships with my existing network. I love hearing that I have had the chance to help people by making connections and opening doors. The most challenging part I would say (as a non-technical person) is articulating the more technical services when I am out in the market, although I consider that exciting because I am learning something new every single day. I am hearing of all the awesome new technology and even new accounting pronouncements can be exciting :)!

How have other women inspired you or helped shape your career?

I was the co-founder of a women in tech organization where I had the chance to meet some really amazing women in leadership roles. I think the humble and honest nature of their stories and how brave they were in telling them has given me such courage to do the same. As my career has progressed and I joined an organization like WICT it has only opened my eyes to even more pretty amazing women at all different points in their career.

What is your favorite TV show and/or movie?

The Sandlot and Home Alone

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I love to crochet and love garage sales and second hand stores finding old furniture to restore …. although I don’t have as much time for that these days!

What’s your role with WICT? What did you enjoy most about that role?

I have been a volunteer for several events for WICT for the past two years and currently assisting a pretty incredible team for the upcoming WPGB event.

Why do you think WICT is important?

WICT is a platform with opportunities to get involved in areas that otherwise you may not have the chance. Chance to meet, connect and collaborate with incredible leaders and peers in one of the coolest industries.
