Meet Melissa Merriman,
Account Executive at Cisco
What do you do for work and what do you love about it and what is most challenging?
I work on the Cisco Cloud and Platforms sales team supporting Comcast. In my role I align Cisco’s portfolio of products and services, business units, corporate resources, and industry partners to Comcast business initiatives to drive industry solutions in the areas of cloud services, IP video, and IOT.
I’m a natural communicator and outgoing by nature so I enjoy the opportunity to work in a systematic way with diverse teams on complex tasks that require a mix of detailed analysis and creativity. This coupled with the fast pace and constantly changing landscape is what I like most.
The most challenging thing about my work is staying on top of the constantly evolving technologies and how they intersect with each other and industry business objectives.
How have other women inspired you or helped shape your career?
I’ve been inspired most by the women who stay true to themselves while making major professional contributions. I’m fortunate to have a support system of women in my personal and professional life who have encouraged me to create my own path and instilled confidence in me by supporting my decisions.
What is your favorite TV show and/or movie?
Game of Thrones – love the complexity, shock factor, power struggle and strong female characters!
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I have a huge family, 4 younger siblings and 39 first cousins.
What do you like most about WICT?
WICT has provided me with the opportunity to create a large diverse network of professional women. The learning and development opportunities are endless and the outlet for giving back to the community, specifically young women, is something I treasure.
Why do you think WICT is important?
WICT provides a platform for women to not only connect to one another but to also help one another and grow and develop in an supportive environment. Most importantly WICT shines a spotlight on the talented successful women working in the industry.
