Meet Kathy! Strategic Intellectual Property Communications Manager at Comcast

What do you do for work and what do you love about it and what is most challenging?

As the Communications Manager for the Comcast Strategic Intellectual Property group, I educate the engineering teams throughout the company about our patent program. I am responsible for implementing new and creative ways to encourage participation in the patent program and manage of the Comcast Inventor Recognition Program.
I love recognizing our inventors for their innovative ideas and feel fortunate to work with the many technical groups across the company. Keeping up with the growth of our company can be challenging at times!

How have other women inspired you or helped shape your career?

I’ve been fortunate to have worked with female leaders who offered me a seat at the table, asked my opinion and valued my input. I am consistently inspired by the women who serve on the WICT Philadelphia Board. They work tirelessly to provide educational programming and networking opportunities for their colleagues in the cable industry and are amazing role models for our membership.

What is your favorite TV show and/or movie?

The Sound of Music¬†is my all-time favorite movie. I grew up listening to musical sound tracks with my father and I can’t pass up a good love story. The Sound of Music is the perfect combination of both!

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

Several years ago,my husband talked me into taking the motorcycle safety course with him. I passed the test, got my motorcycle license, and then my husband surprised me a Harley Davidson for my birthday!

What’s your role with WICT? What did you enjoy most about that role?

This year I am proudly serving as the Operations Chair for the WICT Philadelphia Board, overseeing Finance and Administration. I find the opportunity to work with different Board members and leaders exciting. Each year has a different feel. My past Board positions have included Administration, Volunteer Director and Sponsorship Director.

Why do you think WICT is important?

WICT events are a great way for you to meet new people, learn about the industry and build your professional skills. I always volunteered to work at the registration table for our events so I had the opportunity to say hi to everyone and learn their names. My network has grown tremendously as a result of my involvement in WICT!
