Meet Heather! Director, Internal Communications for Technology at Comcast

What do you do for work and what do you love about it and what is most challenging?

I’m a Director of Internal Communications for the technology organization at Comcast. In this role, I’m part of the team that develops communications, programs and initiatives to inform and engage employees. What I love most about my job is that every day I learn something new, whether it be about next generation technology, new products, or the industry in general. Come to think of it, the pace of change and the need to keep learning is one of my favorite challenges!

How have other women inspired you or helped shape your career?

Countless women have inspired me and helped shape my career. I have been inspired by women who take risks, change careers, overcome tough situations and later have the courage to tell their story. And as a WICT member for many years, I’ve had the privilege to hear from and be inspired by many!

What is your favorite TV show and/or movie?

I love watching The Voice with my kids (10 and 12), and Homeland when they’re in bed:-) There are so many excellent shows to watch and not enough time! The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is next on my list.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I’m the youngest of 8 children.

What’s your role with WICT? What did you enjoy most about that role?

I’ve been a member of WICT for ten years and I was a Board member for six serving as Programming Director, Vice President and President. It has been incredibly rewarding to work with the other members of the board to design programs that advance WICT’s mission of developing women leaders. Working on projects where I was able to develop in areas outside of my day job and partner with amazing women whose paths I would not have otherwise crossed, made it a wonderful learning experience.  Since serving as President, I’ve been an active member by attending programs and events and informally mentoring Chapter members.

Why do you think WICT is important?

WICT provides opportunity and access. On the national and local level, WICT offers key professional development programs, hosts events where you can learn and be inspired, and provides resources to grow your career. Additionally, the access to women and men across the industry, from different walks of life, is unparalleled. Whenever I meet someone new to Comcast, or the industry in general, the first thing I tell them is to join!
