WICT Philly Gives Back (WPGB) recognizes phenomenal women in our industry. Their actions and words inspire all, including the young women from Girls Inc. who will be attending the event. Proceeds from the event support their organization as well as the WICT Philly Scholarship Fund.

Do you know a champion in cable or telecommunications? Let them know by nominating them for one of four WPGB Awards: The Communicator, The Inspire, The Educator and The Catalyst. Nominees will be reviewed based on the touchstones for each award as well as contributions to and involvement in WICT.

Nominations are due Friday, August 9, 2019.

We Need Your Help!

For the past several years, Girls Inc. has been our partner for the annual WICT Philly Gives Back fundraiser. Girls Inc. is a nonprofit organization that encourages all girls to be “Strong, Smart, and Bold” and is creating a lasting impact in young girl’s lives.

Girls Inc of Greater Philly and Southern NJ is up for a 200K grant for their Operation SMART STEM program and we’d love for you to show them your support.

Did you know technology played an important role during the 2019 Women’s World Cup?

One of the things VAR (Video Assistant Referee) helps officials do is determine penalties and ensure no clearly wrong decisions are made. VAR recommends to the ref when a incident should be reviewed. The ref can either act on the advice of VAR or review the video footage before accepting or rejecting the advice. In the World Cup final, VAR intervened and alerted the ref to the possibility of a foul against Alex Morgan, leading to this match winning moment (spoiler alert: USWNT won):

Meet Chelsey – Designer, XD at Comcast!
Describe your role & what you love about it.

I’m a designer on the Experience Design (XD) team at Comcast. My daily responsibilities include designing new features and improvements for the X1, Flex and Stream products and seeing those projects through to launch. I love working on things that make an impact on the millions of people who use Xfinity products, and the challenge in designing experiences that are seamless and easy to use.

How have other women inspired you or helped shape your career?

I have had the pleasure of working with women who are not afraid to speak their minds. Through mentorship, networking and interactions with others, I have been encouraged to always share my thoughts and opinions with confidence.

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

I did competitive gymnastics and have studied all types of dance since the age of 5. Back in the day I won a bunch of national dance titles and at one point was a backup dancer for Weird Al Yankovic.

Why do you think WICT is important?

WICT is important to me because it has introduced me to a new network of inspiring women. All of the programs, events and networking opportunities that WICT offers have definitely created a positive impact on my personal growth and make me feel empowered. Additionally, working with the women of WICT has given me confidence to speak to other individuals that I wouldn’t have previously interacted with.
