What do you do for work and what do you love about it and what is most challenging?
Melinda: I’m a Senior Accountant for Comcast Business Services, specifically responsible for POR expense accounting. What I love about my job are the different interactions and relationships I have with both internal and external customers. I think many may think that Accounting is such a solitary job, but it really isn’t! A challenging part (but also what I love) is explaining accounting rules and treatment to stakeholders so that they can understand how to capitalize or expense their projects.
How have other women inspired you or helped shape your career?
Melinda: Seeing more women in leadership roles in our industry is a big inspiration. There was one executive I had the pleasure of working with who was a super busy woman both in her career and home life. But she still took the time out to walk me through some learning curves and helped me excel in my role. She always had knowledge to share and empowered those around her. She inspired me to not just think of myself as I pursue a leadership role, but to think about how I can impact others.
What is your favorite TV show and/or movie?
Melinda: Game of Thrones…I can’t believe we have to wait until 2019 for the final season!
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
Melinda: I’m incredibly frugal. I’ll scour the internet for the best deal before buying anything.
What’s your role with WICT? What did you enjoy most about that role?
Melinda: I’m currently an active member of WICT and I attend every event I can make because they’re great learning and networking opportunities. I find that there are so many volunteer roles to take advantage of. I’d like to continue to increase my participation in this way.
Why do you think WICT is important?
Melinda: I’m a strong proponent of WICT’s mission to help develop and advance women as leaders. The support, networking, and development opportunities the program provides are integral pieces to this mission.
