FALL INTO NETWORKING – POST EVENT RECAP

On Wednesday (9/27), I had the opportunity to attend “Fall into Networking with NAMIC & The WICT Network: Greater Philadelphia” at Termini Brothers in the Comcast Center concourse. The event ran from 8:00 to 9:30 AM, and I was able to drop in for the middle half hour.
After filling out my nametag and grabbing a cup of coffee (the bakery’s treats looked amazing!), I had that moment of pause when you attend a function on your own and need to take the initial step of breaking into a group and introducing yourself (it seemed harder still before having had sufficient caffeine). I scanned the group of mostly professional women and a few men, meandering up to a group who I discovered all worked together. But not surprising given the friendly people I’ve met at other WICT events, they quickly welcomed me into their conversation.
It was fun to meet and chat with them, and I got a glimpse into their part of the Comcast organization (which is one I’d not previously had contact with), as well as their interests outside of work. And the conversation with them was a bridge to meeting others who subsequently joined the group. So likewise, I met other warm, engaged women from various parts of Comcast and our industry.
My time at the networking event was relatively short given other to dos, and I’d only spoken to a small fraction of those there – but I left feeling energized, not only for the coffee but having met and connected with a few new women that I’ll hopefully run into around the office or at other extracurricular events. Although it’s often easier to just stay in my comfort zone and devote time to ticking things off my list, I was glad I’d made the effort.
