Arise Firebird Event Recap

On February 19, 2025, members of The WICT Network gathered for an inspiring and thought-provoking event centered around the screening of Arise Firebird, a documentary that sheds light on the stories of resilience, triumph, and empowerment within the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and women’s communities. The film beautifully weaves together the experiences of individuals overcoming obstacles, breaking barriers, and paving the way for future generations in both personal and professional spheres. Through personal accounts, the film illustrates the transformative power of determination, community support, and the drive to create lasting change. It is a documentary that celebrates the resilience and empowerment of women and BIPOC professionals in the workplace.

The event did not end with just the screening – members of the WICT community had the opportunity to join an intimate virtual fireside chat on February 26, 2025. Moderated by WICT Network’s Kimberly Alexis, filmmaker Jimi Okubanjo engaged in an insightful conversation about the making of Arise Firebird. It was an event that inspired reflection, conversation, and a collective commitment to supporting and uplifting women and BIPOC individuals in the workplace and beyond.

With a focus on empowerment, community, and storytelling, these events reinforced the value of creating spaces that uplift voices often underrepresented, leaving attendees inspired and motivated to continue breaking barriers in their own journeys. The Arise Firebird Film Screening and Director’s Chat was hosted by the WICT Rocky Mountain Chapter, but had participation across the country from 11 WICT chapters. Special thank you to Rocky Mountain for organizing such a successful and impactful event!
