Meet Sara, Software Engineer, Comcast  

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about my job is the challenge of finding a better way. Working in software engineering, one thing I have heard a lot is that there are an infinite number of ways to solve a problem. So, when trying to solve for something and weighing in mind all repercussions, the design of the solution is my favorite part because it combines the effectiveness with creativity to result in something that is truly improved.

How have other women helped shape your career?

I have been fortunate to work with incredible women throughout my career who have modeled what it is to show up authentically and fearlessly. Their advocacy, guidance, and willingness to share their experiences have empowered me to grow both personally and professionally, and their example has made me more intentional about bringing that same openness and encouragement into the way I connect with and support others.

What is something you are passionate about?

Outside of work, I am passionate about activities that challenge me to keep learning. One of these is carpentry, where a ten-minute tutorial on building a pub table turned into a hobby that continually offers new skills and projects to explore. In addition, I value giving back to my community and volunteer with organizations in Philadelphia, including Heights Philadelphia and Junior Achievement.

How has your WICT membership impacted your career?

I became a WICT member three months after starting my career, as a recent graduate adjusting to my first professional role. The first event I attended was Tech It Out, and hearing other women share their wins and experiences in the tech industry at that conference inspired and encouraged me to reflect on my own path and to become more involved. Since then, volunteering with WICT and eventually becoming a board member has been an honor to work alongside so many remarkable women to help foster a community that continues to support so many.
