Board Member Spotlight: Yvette Clarke Thornton

Meet Yvette, Owner/President Clarke Innovations LLC

What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about my job is supporting innovation. I'm fascinated by the journey from idea to final product, and I find joy in helping inventors identify the novel, patentable aspects of their solutions. It's incredibly rewarding to assist in helping others to understand and navigate the patent process while also helping them to protect their intellectual property.

How have other women helped shape your career?

Women have played a pivotal role in shaping my career. A female patent agent at a SWE conference inspired my career path, showing me how to combine my love for STEM with innovation and flexibility. At the USPTO, where all my supervisors were women, they honed my understanding of patent law and instilled a strong work ethic rooted in continuous learning. Today, women continue to inspire me, encouraging me not only to think outside the box but to examine it from various angles and recognize that sometimes, true innovation requires removing the box entirely.

Outside of work, what’s something you are passionate about?

I am the ultimate hype girl for my kids. Right now, I am all in for Breezy Fit Co., Randolph Macon College Men’s basketball and Radnor High School Bocce. I will always be the one cheering the loudest.

What do you value most about your membership with The WICT Network?

The WICT Network has been my professional lifeline, and what I value most is how it's been there for me through thick and thin. It's not just an organization; it's a community that's held my hand through every twist and turn of my career. When I was feeling lost and unsure about my purpose, WICT didn't just offer career development training– they offered me opportunities to try new things and develop new skills. During my lowest career moments, I found myself surrounded by a network of supportive voices and unexpected connections. And when I hit the high notes in my career, my WICT family was right there, cheering me on louder than anyone. It's this personal touch – the way they've adapted to exactly what I've needed at each stage – that makes my WICT membership so incredibly valuable to me.
