Meet Melissa, Executive Director, Brand Strategy, Comcast Business 

What do you love most about your job?

The thing I love most about my job is being able to drive growth of the business by taking strategies and ideas and concepts and turning them into actions that help our customers. I am lucky to lead a team of talented professionals across a variety of Brand Strategy disciplines and working with them to dream big, build smart, and connect dots to bring things to life gets me out of bed in the morning. I have seen time and time again that we can do so much when we work as a team, and I am lucky to work with amazingly smart, dedicated people who are all focused on building our brand and driving our business by supporting our customers.

Who is one woman who influenced your career journey?

My first-ever team leader had a huge impact on my career journey. I was in advertising working in NYC and hired at Grey NY which was a leading agency; it was fast-paced and high-pressure, and I was an enthusiastic Assistant Account Executive with a lot to learn. This leader - who was an EVP managing multiple businesses - took an interest in me. I sat outside of her office, and she got to know as a member of her team but also a person. We would chat about our shared loved of reading and she would give me tips about NYC as a native Manhattanite. I learned a lot from her professionally, but her engagement with me as a person - how she treated me, how she made time for me, how she treated her entire team - is what sticks with me and has shaped how I view the role as a leader.

Outside of work, what’s something you are passionate about?

Outside of work, I am very passionate about creating community and connection with other working moms. I started a community group called Work. Life. Motherhood focused on bringing together working moms to share their experiences, unlock tips and ideas, and know that they are not alone in the challenge of working parenthood! As a mom of two young daughters, I am often toggling between princesses and Powerpoint, and I have found a lot of passion in connecting with others who are doing the same and supporting a community of amazing women.

What do you value most about your membership with The WICT Network?

Being part of WICT has exposed me to so many accomplished, generous women in our industry who are doing huge things and paving the way for us all. I have been part of the Rising Leaders program as well as the Executive Development series, and I have taken away so many tips - big and small - that I carry with me today. We are incredibly fortunate to have this resource at Comcast and within our industry!
